Day 139: May 18

Technical difficulties with today’s shot, I’ll update this post with the photo as soon as I can.

Day 138: May 17

May 17: Robin's Eggs

Manual exposure: 32mm, 1/50 sec, f/4.5, ISO 400

A mama robin has built a nest in a tree in my parents’ yard, and ever since he found the empty nest, my dad was trying to get me to shoot a Daily Snap of it.  I told him I would wait until there were eggs inside, and sure enough, he discovered three eggs inside it a week or two ago.

There was only one problem: the mama robin was always sitting on the nest whenever I was there, and if I got too close she would freak out and fly away.  I was too worried she’d come back and peck me on the head if I got even closer to the nest, and I didn’t want to stress her out, either.

Finally, on May 17th the eggs were all alone, and to our surprise one more had appeared!  So pretty.

Although, my dad did tease me by yelling “Here comes the mama bird!!” while I was shooting, ha ha.

Day 133: May 12

May 12: Drake and Dante

Manual exposure: 35mm, 1/50 sec, f/8, ISO 3200

Today I had my first somewhat proper newborn shoot.  I’ve shot pictures of Sebastian as a newborn before, and I’ve taken candid shots of Dagny, Drake and Dante as newborns in the hospital, but I’ve never actually hauled props to someone’s home, set up reflectors, and tried to look as if I know what I’m doing ;-)

Shooting newborns isn’t as easy as the pros make it look, and shooting twins is infinitely more difficult than shooting a singleton!  This was truly me throwing myself right into the deep end of newborn photography.

I still haven’t gone through all of the photos I took today (I filled two memory cards!) but this one grabbed my eye right away.  Drake is in the front, Dante is in the back, and I’m really pleased with the way it came out because each twin’s face has pretty much equal visual weight in the frame.  A lot of the shots I’ve looked at so far seem to feature one twin a lot more than the other, but I feel this one shines a spotlight on each of them.  And they look so gosh darn cute snuggled up together!!

Day 132: May 11

May 11: Feet

Manual exposure: 10mm, 1/40 sec, f/4, ISO H 1.0

Whenever I leave my daily photo until the very last minute, my poor husband inevitably hears me whine “What should I take a picture of???”

John’s answer, without fail, is always “feet,”  although he alternates between suggesting my feet and his own feet.  He does it just to bug me because he knows that I think feet are gross, ha ha.

Today I was playing with my 10-24mm lens and I realized that when I’m shooting indoors I’m almost always zoomed all the way in.  For shits n’ giggles I zoomed all the way out to 10mm, and when I pointed the camera down to take a picture of Finn on the floor in front of me, I noticed my legs were in the bottom of the shot.  The lens was distorting my legs and making them look like they were super duper long, and it was a pretty fun illusion.

For the final photo I ended up cropping a ton of empty space out of the top and left sides of the photo.  I’m not sure if the cropping harmed the illusion somewhat?

At least this shot will force John to come up with some new suggestions now that “feet” has been checked off the list!

Day 131: May 10

These two pictures sum up Sebastian and Finn’s relationship perfectly:

May 10: Sebastian and Finn Sitting

Manual exposure: 35mm, 1/80 sec, f/4, ISO 6400

May 10: Sebastian Hugging Finn

Manual exposure: 35mm, 1/60 sec, f/4, ISO 6400

Complete adoration from Sebastian.  Complete tolerance from Finn.
